Children receive professional instruction to create original artworks by:

  • exploring a variety of media, 2-D & 3-D, drawing, painting, printmaking, clay, and sculpture.
  • learning to use elements and principles of design.
  • discovering the works of master artists.

Children's Fine Arts Classes

Regular classes are offered for ages 7-10 and 10-14. Each session consists of a series of four 1.5 hour Fine Arts classes.

 

Tuition for the 6 hours is $79. Supplies are included with the tuition.

 

Classes will be a small group of mixed ages and abilities. Personalized instruction encourages students to create their own unique artworks and express their creativity while increasing their knowledge and skills.

 

Classes are ongoing, with a new subject each session. Students may join and/or continue at the beginning of any session. We will explore a variety of media and artistic styles as we learn about different artists.

 

Classes are held at various locations in The Woodlands community, including the South County Community Center at 2235 Lake Robbins Drive.

 

Private Classes are also available (please inquire for more information).

Class size is limited to 8-10 students.

Session I - Drawing

Emphasis will be on drawing from observation, exploring line, shadow and color. Time will also be given to drawing from memory and imagination.

Turn your holiday drawings into handmade cards and gifts by learning to make a simple printing plate and using markers.

Children's Saturday Art Workshops

First Saturdays,  10:00 - 12:30   

Instructor:   Suzanne Hayes   (Su-Z-Art)

Fee of $40 includes all supplies. 

Ages 7 - 12 years. 

Workshops are held at WAL (Woodlands Art League) in Market Street 

(across from Aaron Brothers art and frame, at the end of HEB parking lot.)

Sep. 4 - Drawing

Learn to draw animals using colored pencils and markers.  You will also discover how to make your drawings look 3-D with various shading techniques and other art "tricks"!

Oct. 2 - Watercolor Painting

Paint a Fall still life while learning about various watercolor techniques and textural effects.  Hint: You can create textures with items from your kitchen!

Nov. 6 - Acrylic Painting

Paint Picasso's wonderfully wacky dog while learning about color families and mixing colors.  You are sure to create a new and exciting critter!

Dec. 4 - Holiday Printmaking

Turn your holiday drawings into beautifully unique handmade cards and gifts.  You'll learn easy techniques to make your own printing plates and use a "watercolor" technique to make your art pieces.

Summer Classes: Children's Fine Arts

Children receive professional instruction to create original artworks by exploring a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, clay, and sculpture. Several camp dates with selected media to choose from.

Classes are held at The South County Community Center, 2235 Lake Robbins Drive (on the corner of Lake Robbins and Grogan's Mill) in The Woodlands. 
  • Registration fee of $79 per session includes supplies.
  • Each session is held Monday through Thursday, one and a half hours each day. 
  • All sessions are independent of each other and there are no pre-requisites. 
  • Most lessons include looking at works by master artists. 
  • Come have fun while actively learning about art and creating original masterpieces!

June 7-10 - Acrylic Painting

Focus will be on animals and landscapes, experimenting with different techniques of acrylic painting. Learn about composition, color families, and color mixing.

June 14-17 - Aromatherapy and Polymer Clay Jewelry

Awaken your sense of smell while mixing and experimenting with the fragrances of essential oils to make bath salts, body lotions and spritzers, sachets and room fresheners. (Formerly taught at LSC-Montgomery.)  Polymer clay is a versatile clay-like medium that can be baked in your own oven!  In this class we will explore basic clay techniques in making jewelry. This is always a popular class with the girls!

June 21-24 - Drawing and Printmaking

Simplify drawing by recognizing basic shapes and lines in objects.  Emphasis will be on turning drawings into fine art prints by making printing plates and using inks, markers, and colored pencils.  These simple and fun techniques produce amazing artworks!

July 5-8 - Watercolor Painting

Watercolors are quite different from acrylic paints.  Discover the softness of washes and wet on wet techniques, the boldness of intense colors, and various textural effects.  A variety of subject matter will be offered for exploration.

July 5-8 - Animal Pots & More

Explore time-honored clay methods such as pinching and coiling to create unique pottery.  The animal pinch pot is always a hit!  Be prepared to get your hands "dirty" while exploring this tactile medium.

July 12-15 - Drawing People

Emphasis will be on drawing people in fun and creative ways! Our expressive side will come to the forefront as we portray gestures, movement, and our own degree of realism. We'll explore "fractured portraits" and "dancing with the stars" in this creative class.

August 16-19 - Metal Embossing

This fun and popular technique is based on a fine art form from Mexico. Learn to transfer original drawings to metal foil, emboss using simple tools, and add color!
